ERA has proposed a Geology, Geomorphology, Soil & Landscapes Strategic Action Plan. The Environment and Resources Authority is in the process of developing national legislation such that areas exhibiting features of geological, geomorphological and landscape value can be designated as sites of geological/geomorphological/landscape importance.
The Environment and Resources Authority also proposed research initiatives relating to geology, geomorphology and natural/semi-natural landscapes across the Maltese Islands. As a result of this research, sites containing features of importance will be identified. Sites containing features of geological, geomorphological and landscape value may be the considered for inclusions as UNESCO Global Geoparks and UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
