Kevin Mercieca, ERA CEO, welcomed heads and senior representatives of Environmental Protection Agencies from across Europe, as well as high-level representatives of the European Commission and the European Environment Agency (EEA), including EEA Executive Director Leena Ylä-Mononen, to Valletta for two days of discussion on shared environmental challenges, including strategic planning, the marine environment, data science and AI, and mainstreaming environmental priorities.

Minister Miriam Dalli, in her welcome remarks, highlighted the importance of sharing experiences across Europe, as well as the particular challenges Malta faces in negotiating and implementing EU environmental legislation.

Dr Marthese Portelli of The Malta Chamber, who participated in one of the sessions on strategic and corporate planning, brought the business perspective to the discussion, emphasising how cooperation between environmental authorities and businesses can benefit both the environment and competitiveness.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for ERA to mark its 10th anniversary together alongside its European counterparts.
