Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI) was set up in 1987. The scope of this organisation is to establish a global network of botanic gardens and to coordinate efforts towards plant conservation in an efficient, cost-effective and rational manner. BCGI achieves this by:
- Leading innovative and strategic projects targeted at plant conservation policy, practice and education;
- Providing leadership to botanic gardens towards the implementation of the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation (GSPC);
- Providing funding for projects and initiatives undertaken by botanic gardens aimed at plant conservation, public engagement and other important activities;
- Optimising plant conservation capacity in botanic gardens.
More information on BGCI’s work can be found here.
The Environment and Resources Authority is a member of BGCI.
