Common Species used for Landscaping in the Maltese Islands
Appropriate landscaping based on the use of appropriate trees and shrubs is essential to offset the effects of development, particularly in rural areas where development should integrate with the surrounding landscape.
This Common Species used for Landscaping in the Maltese Islands booklet is intended to summarize and simplify the 2002 Guidelines on Trees, Shrubs and Plants for Planting and Landscaping in the Maltese Islands, published by the former Planning Authority. It provides a summary of the main issues related to landscaping schemes as well as photographic illustrations of more commonly encountered species. The booklet indicated which species are recommended for planting, which species are acceptable in certain locations and which species should be avoided altogether. This booklet therefore serves as a practical quick-reference guide for landscaping.
