EuropaBON

Europa Biodiversity Observation Network (EuropaBON) is a project funded under the EU’s Horizon 2020 programme, aimed at overcoming existing data gaps and workflow bottlenecks by designing an EU-wide framework for monitoring biodiversity and ecosystem services. The project was officially approved by the EU Commission on 1 October 2020, and jointly led by the German Centre of Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv) and the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU).

EuropaBON will assess current monitoring efforts and analyse cost-effectiveness of different monitoring schemes. The outcome of this assessment will then be used to inform the design of improved monitoring schemes that are able to integrate in-situ and remote sensing data through models, and to deliver less biased and more complete biodiversity information with multiple benefits to users and society.

The overall budget of the project is €2.99M, and is expected to run until November 2023. More information on EuropaBON can be found here.
