ERA officials, in collaboration with Nature Trust Malta, carried out an intervention in Wied Għollieqa, which focused on habitat restoration, invasive alien species removal, erosion control and site maintenance.
A total of 47.5kg of invasive species, including Balloon Vine (Cardiospermum halicacabum), Prickly Pear (Opuntia ficus-indica) and Giant Reed (Arundo donax), was removed alongside invasive Lead Trees (Leucaena leucocephala) and Golden Wreath Wattle (Acacia saligna).
These efforts are supporting the recovery of the habitat, with native species such as Alexanders (Smyrnium olusatrum) and Wild Asparagus (Asparagus aphyllus) naturally re-establishing themselves.
